To review some of your public transit options, read the highlights below. For more specific information on how to use public transportation, including schedules, contact the individual service, or the University Department of Transportation Services at 301-314-5274.

METRORAIL - Use the Metrorail system and then ride Shuttle-UM buses to get to campus. Shuttle-UM service between the College Park Station (Green line) and the center of campus is very frequent - every 8 minutes peak hours most weekdays - is offered year-round, and is open to everyone - no ID required. Shuttle-UM serves the New Carrollton Station (Orange line) and the Silver Spring Station (Red line for students, faculty, and staff).

METROBUS - Metrobuses come through campus from key locations such as Wheaton Metro Station, Four Corners, White Flint Metro Station, Takoma Park, and Riverdale. Metrobus offers service between College Park, Silver Spring and Bethesda Metro Stations. From the College Park Metro Station, take the Shuttle-UM bus straight to campus. You can also bring your bike on the Metrobuses.

THE BUS - The Bus connects Prince George’s County neighborhoods to the nearest Metro Station. From there, take Metrorail to the College Park Station, or if at New Carrollton, West Hyattsville, or College Park, take a Shuttle-UM bus directly to campus.

RIDE-ON - For those who live in Montgomery County, Montgomery County Ride-On connects with Shuttle-UM routes at the Silver Spring Metrorail Station and the Langley Park Shopping Center.

MARC TRAIN - MARC’s Camden line stops in College Park at the Metro Station, giving access to campus for those living along the Baltimore-Washington corridor. For those as far north as Perryville, MARC’s Penn line serves the New Carrollton Metro Station, where you can catch the Shuttle-UM to campus. MARC’s Brunswick line runs between Martinsburg, West Virginia and Union Station where you can take Metrorail to College Park and from there, the Shuttle-UM to campus.

CONNECT-A-RIDE - Connect-A-Ride links northern Prince George’s County, Howard County (Columbia Mall), western Anne Arundel County (Russett Green and Glen Burnie), and eastern Montgomery County (Burtonsville and Briggs Chaney) to Laurel Center Mall. From Laurel, take the Connect-A-Ride south on Route 1 to College Park.

PARK AND RIDE LOTS - Prince George’s County has 18 free Park and Ride parking lots. Use them to meet a carpool or vanpool, or for connecting with Metrobus, The Bus or other local transit systems.

VIRGINIA RAILWAY EXPRESS - Virginia Railway Express offers commuter train service on the Manassas and Fredericksburg Line to Union Station where you can take the Metro to the College Park Metro Station. From the College Park Metro Station, take the Shuttle-UM bus to campus. The Shuttle-UM bus leaves every 8 minutes and is free!

Now that I take Metro, I read, have less stress and know that it’s more environmentally friendly. There’s usually a Shuttle-UM bus waiting when I get off the train in College Park. It brings me nearer to my building than the closest parking lot.
