The Department of Transportation Services continues to be committed to the development of both the students and full-time employees that work for us. Many of our student employees go on to work full-time for us after graduation. This year alone we hired a student employee full-time into our IT department and our Shuttle Management department.
Student Drivers (continuously hiring)
DOTS Shuttle-UM drivers provide safe, dependable, on-time transportation to University of Maryland students, faculty, and staff. The position involves paid training, flexible hours, and advancement opportunities. Drivers earn $8.75/hr during training, which increases to $12/hr after completion of training and CDL licensing.
Student Customer Service Representative
The Student Customer Service Representatives at the Department of Transportation Services (DOTS) are responsible for delivering excellent customer service through active and accurate communication with all department customers. Representatives will serve as the first point of contact for all walk in and telephone customers. They are expected to convey detailed information regarding departmental policies and regulations to customers in a prompt, friendly, and courteous manner. Students will work to build and maintain positive business relationships for the department with faculty, staff, and students by providing the highest quality customer service.
Student Program Assisstant
Job Type/Requirements: $9.00/hr; Part time; Undergraduate Students only
This position will assist the Training Coordinator in planning and managing employee programs and events for the Department of Transportation Services. This position requires an outgoing individual that will brainstorm activities and ideas for collaborative efforts throughout the department. Additionally, this position will work on diversity awareness for staff such as, facilitating small group conversations, creating a monthly diversity board, researching diversity related articles, and planning diversity field trips.

Student Human Resource Assistant
The team of Human Resource Assistants works with the Human Resources Office in facilitating the hiring process for full-time and student employees for DOTS, as well as developing HR related procedures and policies for the entire Department. The position requires approximately 10-16 hours a week with $9.25/hr compensation and opportunities for pay increases every semester. Must be an undergraduate student to apply.
Student Marketing Assistant
Job Type/Requirements: $8.25 per hour; Part time; Undergraduate non-Senior Students only
Under the direction of the Marketing Coordinator, the Marketing Assistant assists in the implementation of strategy to effectively market and promote new and existing products and services. The Marketing Assistant will represent the department at University-sponsored events and assist with the Shuttle-UM advertising program. Under the direction of the Marketing Coordinator, the Marketing Assistant will strive to broaden the reach of the DOTS community and encourage positive interaction between DOTS and the University of Maryland Community.
This position requires a weekly commitment of 10–15 hours to be worked during standard office hours (9:00 – 5:00). This position requires weekend work (Saturdays) twice a month, plus occasional events held on weekends or evenings. This position requires work during the summer.
Student PIT Crew Specialist
Job Type/Requirements: $9.25+ shift differential; Part time; Undergraduate Students only
The PIT Crew position is a very hands-on job that is perfect for outgoing and friendly students who want a position that offers more than just working behind a desk. This position requires a minimum of 10 regularly scheduled hours per week during the semester (Monday-Friday between the hours of 7 a.m. – 10:30 p.m.). Available to work on call some evenings and weekends totaling approximately 10 hours per week. Limited Winter/Summer term hours available as needed. Must work all MD home football games and men’s home basketball games.
