DONATE YOUR BIKE TO BICYCLE RECYCLE

Students, staff and faculty who no longer want their bicycles are encouraged to remove them from campus property by donating it to the DOTS Bicycle Recycle program. Through Bicycle Recycle, your bike will be refurbished by RecWell bike mechanics and sold to Terps at a discount at select events throughout the academic year. DOTS also works with a number of local non-profit organizations that will accept non-refurbishable bikes as donations.

HOW TO DONATE

Our contact-free donation is easy:

  1. Fill out our Donation Release Form
  2. Drop off your bike at one of our striped donation racks outside of North Campus Market, South Campus Dining, the DOTS office, the RecWell Bike Shop or Leonardtown.
WHY DONATE?

Did you know that DOTS identifies and removes as many as 200 abandoned bicycles from the UMD campus each year?

Abandoned bikes are retained as required by law for a year before DOTS donates them to community partners. However, after a year in storage, many of the bikes have deteriorated to the point of being unusable and ultimately end up in a landfill.

Donated bikes are refurbished and distributed to students for an affordable price. When you donate your bike, you reduce environmental waste and make bicycle commuting accessible for other Terps.
